Chocolate Buttercream


  • 1 stick unsalted butter (cold)
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 3-4 cups confectioner's sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tbsp vanilla


  1. In a mixer combine butter, milk, vanilla, cocoa and 1 cup of confectioner's sugar on low speed. Gradually add more of the confectioner's sugar one cup at a time until frosting has reached a desirable consistency.

    Spread frosting over cooled cupcakes, or use an icing bag with a tip. I topped this cupcake with a fondant heart topper and extra sanding sugar.
