Hey, thanks for dropping by! I’m Amy, the behind the scenes creator of this blog Lolachef. (serious pics are overrated)
Lolachef was originally the nickname for my youngest daughter, Lola. As early as age three she was pulling up a chair to help me cook….spilling all along the way of course 🙂
Back in the day I began my adventures in life as a licensed practical nurse. As much as I loved taking care of people and helping others, the medical field was not my passion. I learned a lot about healthy lifestyles and people while working as a nurse. My two biggest takeaways of the medical field:
#1 Seeing first hand how an unhealthy lifestyle and bad eating habits affects our health more than most think.
#2 I LIKE PEOPLE!
I have always everything art and design so I began another journey at the Art Institute online division. I had the hope of studying interior design and using better methods to implement healthier lifestyles and change our way of thinking. Then life took over and well things got crazy…..that’s life right?!
Fast forward to now where I am now. I have found a way to channel my creativity and show people how to incorporate a healthy and fresh way of cooking with fresh recipes and some indulgences….it’s all about moderation right?? AND I get to meet people all over the internet too! Again, I like people and I am so glad you are here.
I encourage a DIY lifestyle from repurposing projects to cooking with fresh ingredients as much as you can. Even if that means starting out adding fresh basil to a canned sauce for spagetti night. I give tips for how to have the basics on hand to prepare for homemade cooking. BTW, go ahead and read the title real slow…..spells lol a chef. I also hope to spark creativity with DIY projects from creative ways to decorate your house to upcycling and repurposing old forgotten items.
I have been cooking for years and coming up with ways to make cooking from scratch realistic. By planning ahead and having some basic staples on hand, it is a whole lot easier to eat healthier. Not to mention that fresh foods simply taste better.
I’m not a professional chef, but my grandmother could have been! She had some serious skills in the kitchen. I grew up watching her cook everything from scratch. In fact, if you asked her for spaghetti she went straight to the freezer and pulled out homemade pasta. Nothing beats homemade pasta made with love with your own hands. I’m pretty sure if you offered to open a box or a can of anything, you would hear a slow motion record scratch in the background…followed by eerie silence.
Once you have the basics down, cooking from scratch can be easy. Try my recipes I have created or use my ideas to create your own. Moderation is key! I try to be healthy without going too overboard. Having homemade staple items on hand makes it easier to stay on track.
Most of my DIY projects are upcycles and repurposing anything old or forgotten because I feel that recycling is important. Although I am creative I am NOT mechanical. Luckily, my husband is. He helps me reassemble and repurpose projects that work properly if not better than before.
Okay, here he is seriously working on a project. He doesn’t like the internet so we will call him Hairbie……you know cause the long feathered locks 🙂 He helps with the structure of the designs to prevent any injuries. I shop a lot of local antique shops for items to tackle. He helps me carry out the really huge pieces that he kinda doesn’t want me to bring home. Basically, he is my free assistant.
I invite you to follow along & hope to inspire your own creative ideas.
