I’m Amy, welcome to my little corner of the web where I use creativity to devise recipes and DIY projects. Eating healthy can be delicious! Making things yourself can be fun and lets you throw in your own personal touch! I hope to encourage you to give it a try:)
Years ago, I started out working as a licensed Practical Nurse. Of course, I loved helping people but wanted to try to help in a different way. Out of all the things the medical field taught me, the thing that stuck out the most was the importance of diet. I saw first hand how what you eat really affects your health. Seeing this was my inspiration for cooking from scratch and using fresh ingredients.
Once you have the basics down, cooking from scratch can be easy. Try my recipes I have created or use my ideas to create your own. Moderation is key! I try to be healthy without going too overboard. Having homemade staple items on hand makes it easier to stay on track.
DIY projects that give “forgotten” pieces a new life is my favorite! I love finding “old” pieces that have repurpose potential. If someone wants to throw something away or give to a flea market I grab it for a makeover! I feel like we tend to waste so much, besides who doesn’t love a makeover?!? My friends always think I forgot to buy paper plates for a party. Nope! I actually enjoy the fact that I have friends to share dishes with and don’t mind clean up after a fun party. I have to admit that I would rather do dishes than throw away paper plates.
I also dabbled a bit in design, which has helped me with this whole site. The fundamentals I learned help me in all aspects of my DIY projects. That’s right, this blog is all me. I do all the writing, designing, photography, and recipe development.
Lolachef is the nickname I had for my youngest daughter who was always ready to help with my culinary efforts. Her enthusiasm comes complete with dropped eggs and spilled flour, which led me to really believe that if I can do this anyone can. BTW, did anyone try reading the title from left to right real slow……… lol a chef.
Obviously, I’m not a chef, but my grandmother could have been! She had some serious skills in the kitchen. I grew up watching her cook everything from scratch. In fact, if you asked her for spaghetti she went straight to the freezer and pulled out homemade pasta. Nothing beats homemade pasta made with love with your own hands.
I’m pretty sure if you offered to open a box or a can of anything, you would hear a slow motion record scratch in the background…followed by eerie silence.
When it comes to quality control with my DIY projects I get some help from my husband. He doesn’t like the internet so we will call him Hairbie……you know cause the long feathered locks 🙂 He helps with the structure of the designs to prevent any injuries. I shop a lot of local antique shops for items to repurpose. He helps me carry out the really huge pieces that he kinda doesn’t want me to bring home. Basically, he is my free assistant. #YouGetWhatYouPayFor
